چکیده

Evaporative cooling is used extensively in low humidity areas of the Southwest United States desert region and throughout other dry climate areas worldwide for residential thermal comfort. A literature review suggested the possibility of evaporative cooling increasing personal exposures to particulate matter along with increased incidences of respiratory illnesses. Indoor and outdoor particulate matter concentrations have been measured to determine the effects of evaporative cooling on ambient air in an evaporative cooler test chamber. The test chamber experiment was conducted to better evaluate the impact of evaporative cooling without interference by household activities such as cooking, cleaning, smoking, etc. Measurement of particulate matter was performed with tapered element oscillating microbalance (TEOM) instruments to provide a larger number of data points for comparison. Based on the experiments performed on two popular models of evaporative coolers, it was found that the evaporative cooler reduces indoor PM10 by approximately 50%, and has a varying reduction effect of between 10 and 40% on PM2:5: These findings are consistent with the predicted outcomes suggested by particulate matter deposition models. r 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Energy Saving in Evaporative Coolers using Permanent Magnet Brushless Motors

Due to low cost, evaporative coolers are used in most of the central regions and in the warm and dry climate of Iran and are considered as one of the major consumers of electrical power. Most evaporative coolers use single-phase induction motors by connecting directly to the power grid. But their eefficiency is very low, and their replacement with high efficiency electric motors is considered b...

Evaporative Cooler Use Influences Temporal Indoor Relative Humidity but Not Dust Mite Allergen Levels in Homes in a Semi-Arid Climate

Concerns about energy consumption and climate change make residential evaporative coolers a popular alternative to central air conditioning in arid and semi-arid climates. However, evaporative coolers have been shown to significantly increase indoor relative humidity and dust mite allergen levels in some studies, while showing no association in other studies. Improved measurement of temporal fl...

Indoor particulate concentration during biomass burning in central India

Indoor air particulate (PM) exposure is several folds more dangerous than  outdoor air  owing to burning of different materials. Burning biomass emits toxic fumes that are found to be associated with  numerous health problems  such as respiratory diseases, etc. In our study area,  approximately 80% of the population of Chhattisgarh state, central India use biomass  such as wood, and cow dung as...

Performance Evaluation Of Evaporative Cooler Using The Predictive Mean Vote (Pmv) Model

Most of the developing nations like Nigeria intend to develop in a sustainable manner. This development cannot be realized if refrigerated-based air conditioning systems that are characterized by high power requirement, high cost and with a negative influence on t he environment are used as a means of achieving thermal comfort in living spaces. Evaporative coolers are viable options of achievin...
